2 Neck Deep Songs Popular Among Young Indonesians



Neck Deep is a popular pop punk band today. The band Neck Deep was formed by Ben Barlow or his hitherto vocalist and friend Lloyd Roberts in Wrexham, Wales. Neck Deep's initial lineup consisted of Ben Barlow as vocalist, Lloyd Roberts and Matt West as guitarist, Fil Thrope-Evans as bassist, and Dani Washington as drummer. Although until now Neck Deep often changes personnel leaving Ben Barlow and Matt West as personnel who have never been replaced.

This band from the UK is fairly prolific by releasing albums with a fairly short period of time. In September 2012, precisely on the 11th Neck Deep released a mini album titled Rain In July. A History of a Bad Decisions was released in February 2013 and in the same year Neck Deep signed to major label Hopeless Records. After signing to the label in January 2014, they released an album titled Wishful Thinking. In 2015 they released an album titled Life's Not Out To Get You. The Peace And The Panic in 2017 and All Distortions Are Intentional in 2020.

Neck Deep himself first visited Indonesia precisely in Jakarta in 2018, at that time the UK band was undergoing a series of Asian tours entitled  The Peace and The Panic Asia Tour. Neck Deep's first concert in Jakarta was very successful and lively. The concert was opened by local band Rocket Rockers and Malaysian band Patriot. At that time Neck Deep performed their really cool songs, namely Happy Judgement Day, Lime, Gold Steps, Motion Sickness, What Did You Expect, Kali Ma, Rock Bottom, Citizens of Earth, Parachute, In Bloom, December, A Part Of Me, Can't Kick Up The Rooth, and Where Do We Go When We Go. You could say it is said to be the best song list.

The songs played in Jakarta in 2018 at that time were popular songs among listeners, especially in Indonesia. Especially 2 songs that many people know and hear, namely December and Wish You Were Here. This can be seen on Spotify, these 2 songs are at the top of the popular Neck Deep song with a total of more than 140  million plays for Wish You Were Here and more than 117 million plays for December. On Youtube it is no less than 75 million views  for Wish You Were Here and 26 million for December. Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya are some of the cities with the most Neck Deep listeners according to Spotify data. Therefore, they held concerts in these cities some time ago in the series of the Australia-Asia Tour 2023.

Why are December and Wish You Were Here popular in Indonesia? Besides in Indonesia, there are many young fans of the pop punk genre. These 2 songs are generally heartbreak songs and that makes them relate to many people more. These 2 acoustic versions of songs make them more well-received for both Neck Deep and non-Neck Deep fans. The lyrics are very cool and don't seem to exaggerate. Therefore, it is often found that young children make the songs December and Wish You Were Here as backsounds in the stories they make on social media.

Even so, there are actually many Neck Deep songs that are no less cool and meaningful. As in the Neck Deep songs on the album All Distortions Are Intentional, namely Pushing Daisies, Fall, I Revolve (Around You), Sonderland, Sick Joke, What Took You So Long, and others. And also the latest song released not long ago It Won't Be Like This Forever which is very cool. Good news for Neck Deep fans, they have announced that they will release their latest album in January 2024.
